We’re pleased to announce the fourth edition of “The Bulletin,” a newsletter by the Bethesda African Cemetery Coalition (BACC) which aims to keep our community informed about our struggle to end the desecration of Moses Cemetery & ensure its return to the Black community whose ancestors lie beneath its soil.
Throughout the first half of the year, BACC has grown tremendously. We’ve officially partnered with Ben & Jerry’s and collaborated with two the Silver Spring and Rockville stores during Free Cone Day, allowing us to share the work and literature of BACC with customers all while enjoying free and delicious ice cream. We’ve also met with students at Jackson-Reed High School, 2nd graders at the Washington Episcopocal School, and residents at the Riderwood Senior Living Community. Just last weekend we hosted our first BACC bake sale in downtown Bethesda which was a huge success and will undoubtedly lead to more opportunities to enjoy baked goods all while supporting this historic struggle.
With Juneteenth (June 19th) fast approaching, our full attention has shifted to our yearly celebration at Moses Cemetery. Juneteenth invites reflection, discussion, and a recommitment to the struggle against white supremacy and the legacy of chattel slavery in this country.
We hope you’ll become a part of this mission by supporting the BACC, raising your voices, donating your time and treasure, and attending our Juneteenth celebration.
As BACC president Marsha Coleman-Adebayo often says, “The people always win.” Together, we can win. Join us.
